CHURCH HISTORY

Our church was started back in 1979 in the Elcho, WI area by a Godly couple named Tom and Loretta Amburgy. It began as a Bible study in their café after business hours. They played tapes of the Bible in which they all listened to and then discussed. The church was made up of people of all denominations who wanted more of God. Each weekly meeting had a time of worship, study, and fellowship.

Under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, many people were brought to Christ, healed, delivered, taught God’s word and experienced God’s love. After a few years meeting in the Amburgy’s café, the church was moved to a storefront building where the church was established as Gospel Truth Assembly. It was in that old storefront that God placed its first Pastor and congregation. Cancer, lupus, and many other diseases were destroyed in people’s bodies as God worked many miracles which continue to this day. Depression, alcoholism, drug abuse, divorce, physical and verbal abuse were taken out of peoples lives as they were taught the “Word of God”. Hope, joy, peace, and love were instilled in people’s hearts and continues to be to this day.

The church continued to meet in the old storefront building until 2002. In that year, God gave Pastor Shane and the congregation a vision to build a new church. The land was purchased just east of town on a hill overlooking Elcho. In the front of the church yard sits a huge exposed rock. This rock has become quite a landmark.

As the planning for the new church progressed, Pastor Shane and the members of the congregation believed that God wanted the church to be a log structure. After the construction of the church was completed the congregation and guests of the church were delighted in the fact that the church really felt like a home away from home instead of an institution.

The new church has a warm, family like atmosphere. When you walk through the church doors, you know that the Lord’s love has been placed in the hearts of the people. Get ready for a warm welcome and when you leave it won’t be without an invitation to come back next week. We believe God wants to make strong church families, so when the storms of life come, we all have a place to go. So if you’re searching for a church that preaches and teaches the Truth, is led by the Holy Spirit and filled with the Holy Spirit, you will know that you have found the right place at the Upper Room Family Church. Humble beginnings.  The first church was located in Summit Lake and was called the "Northwoods Worship Centre".
